ほかの国だとスゲエって扱いなのにさ、米国だと（アメリカン）フットボールはもちろん野球未満のマッチョ指数だと見做されてんだよな。 〔In other countries it is kick *** but in the USA it is considered less macho than football (American) and even baseball.〕

野球未満のマッチョ指数とは思いませんがね俺は。でも女々しいスポーツと思われてしまう理由は多数あり。 〔I don't think it is considered much less macho than baseball. But here are a number of reasons people think its a sissy sport:〕

1．この国では大勢の女性がサッカーをやる。 〔1. A lot of women play soccer over here〕
2．大勢の子供がサッカーをやる。 〔2. A lot of kids play soccer〕
3．地面にうずくまるなどというのは米国では起き上がれない者だけがやることで、ダイブはあくまで失敗の結果。 〔3. All the diving does not go over well. In the US a guy only stays down if he cant get up, and the diving comes across wrong.〕
4．ロナウドなんかが典型だけども、報道に出てくる連中が漏れなくオカマっぽい。それで他選手も皆がそういうイメージで見られることになってしまう。 〔4. Guys like Ronaldo that get all the press do come off as kind of gay, so all the othe rplayers get stereotyped with them.〕
5．アメフト選手は超特大。190センチに150キロとか。一方、サッカー選手は細身だし、チビもいたりする。 〔5. American football players are super big, 6'4" 330 etc whereas soccer players are lean and can be short.〕

俺はサッカー好きなアメリカ人です。試合さえ見れば女々しいスポーツなんかじゃないのがわかる。でもアメリカ人は見たことないわけなんですよね。これは断言できることですが、アメリカ人の大部分はサッカーというと、審判の反則判定狙いで地面にぶつかって転げ回ってるロナウドみたいな手合いを思い浮かべるわけなんですよ。 〔I love soccer and I am American. Once you know the game you know it's no sissy sport but Americans don't know the game yet. When most Americans think of soccer I guarantee you they think of a guy like Ronaldo diving and rolling all over the ground trying to get the ref to call a foul.〕

アメリカじゃあんま人気ないからね。クリケットに次ぎラグビーと並ぶ危険なスポーツなのにね。 〔becuz it isnt very popular in america--even though it is the 2nd or 3rd most dangerous sport 1st being cricket 2nd either rugby or soccer〕

だって怪我を捏造しちゃうし、ちょっと転んだだけでペナルティ申し立てとかスポーツマンシップの致命的な欠如そのものだし。少なくともアメフト選手は激しくぶつかってゆくし、それを受けるのも可能。野球選手だってサッカー選手よりは激しい滑りっぷりを見せるぜ。 〔Because they fake injuries and it is poor sportsmanship to claim a penalty when you are just falling to the floor. At least footballers hit hard and can take it in return. Even Base ball players slide harder than soccer players.〕

サッカーが人気ないのはアメリカンスポーツじゃないからです。要するにですね、フットボールも野球もバスケも確かみんなアメリカ産で、米国商業スポーツ界を制覇してますからね。 〔They don’t like soccer because it isn’t an American sport I mean football, baseball and basketball were all invented in America as far as I know and these sports dominate commercially in the US.〕

野球もフットボールもろくにやったことない連中が暮らすヨーロッパみたいなとことは違って、米国にはたくさんのスポーツがあるからさ。あいつらってサッカーしかやんねえけど、それってうちらからしたら斬新なんだよな。だってうちらんとこには既にそれら全スポーツがあるもんでね。 〔Because there are more sports in the U.S than other places like in Europe they really don't play baseball or football. they only play soccer so to us its a new concept because we already have all these sports.〕
