いいえ。それは青い目をした白猫だけの話です。聴覚障害の遺伝子というのは白毛および青目を作る遺伝子と関わっているようなのです。つまり遺伝性の障害であるということ。オッドアイの猫は青目側の耳が聴こえないことが多いのです。青目の白猫がみんな聴覚障害を持っているわけではありません。非常に多いのは確かですけどね。緑やなんかの目をした白猫の聴覚障害の発生率は他の猫たちと変わりません。 〔No, it's only white cats who also have blue eyes, The gene for deafness would be located with the gene that says a cat's going to get white fur and blue eyes - so it's inherited. 目色が青の白猫は耳が完全に聴こえないのが普通で、片方だけが青という場合は、その青いほうの耳だけが聴こえないのが普通。白猫だけに見られる現象だと思うけど、なんでなのかはちょっとわからない。とりあえず大半の白猫は何かの潜在症状でもない限りは健常に聴こえてるよ。 〔If the white cat has blue eyes, this normally means its completely deaf, or if it has one blue eye, and one eye of a different Colour, the ear at the same side as the blue eye is usually deaf. I think this only happens in white cats, but I'm not too sure why. But most white cats can normally hear fine unless there is some underlying condition.〕
