フランスの地に往古の代より生息してきた”ほほ笑み猫”―シャルトリュー。その隣はブリテンの地に同じく往古の代より揺籃の時を刻んできた”ブリティッシュブルー”―すなわち銀灰色の被毛を備えるブリティッシュショートヘア。
その部門を『猫』(Cats)へと定めたうえで2009年の12月27日に放たれたこの質問は、その質問者の保持下にあるものという一匹の猫の写真をあらかじめそこに提示したうえで、それがともにブルーすなわち銀灰色の被毛で名高いこれら猫種のいずれか一方に該当するものであるのか否かを問うた。

うちにもちょうどこんな感じの猫がおりました。脱走しちゃったんですよこの夏に。：（ 〔I used to have a cat exactly like that. But then he ran away this past summer. :(〕
うちに迎え入れた頃にはロシアンブルーじゃないかと言われていたものです。確かブリティッシュブルーと同じものなんですよね？ 〔When our family adopted him the people said he was a Russian Blue. But maybe that could be the same thing as a British Blue?〕

見てみましたが特定の品種ではなくありふれたイエネコじゃないでしょうか。それでも純血種だというならロシアンブルーだと思いますね。シャルトリューとブリティッシュショートヘアというのは被毛が非常に密生しているものですし、丸太い体型をしているものですから。 〔she looks like a normal house cat, no breed in particular- if i had to pin her as purebred i'd say Russian Blue, because Chartreux and British Shorthairs have very plush coats and cobby bodies.〕

一枚目のがちょっとだけブリに見えるけど、あとのは全く見えない。ありふれた銀灰毛のドメスティックショートヘアですね。ブリはもっともっとどっしりしてますし、頭型も違っています（もっと丸め）。シャルトリューはとても希少です。そのへんの道をふらふら闊歩しているような猫ではありませんよ。 〔In the one picture she does look a little like a Brit, but not in all the others. She's a normal blue domestic shorthair. Brits are much heavier built and have a different head type (more rounded). Chartreux are pretty uncommon and are not cats that are running in the streets loose.〕

混血以外の何物でもないと思います。写真を拝見しましたがどちらにでも見え得る。もし可能であればこの子の母猫と父猫を探されてみてください。無理でしたら地元の獣医に尋ねてみるとか。 〔i really think that she is a mix. i looked at some pictures and, she looks like both. if you can, find out about her mother and her father. if not, ask your local vet.〕

CFAやTICAなどといった血統登録機関の登録書が無いのならつまりその子はドメスティックショートヘア。可愛らしいですよね子猫はやっぱり！ドメスティックショートヘアですよそれは。 〔Without registration papers from a cat registry such as CFA and TICA you cat is a domestic short hair cat. Very cute as a kitten! Domestic short hair is what you have.〕

ボンベイっぽい。ブリティッシュブルーはもっと明るめ。2枚目の写真はブリティッシュブルーっぽい。シャルトリューだとブリティッシュブルーやボンベイよりもっと 遥 か に 明るめ。あとの写真はボンベイとブリティッシュブルーの掛け合わせっぽいな。 〔She looks like a Bombay, a british blue is lighter, the 2nd picture looks like a british blue, a chartruex is WAY to light colored for a british blue or a bombay.
